The village of Pletena falls into the historical-geographical area of Chech – famous for being separated for a long time by the Bulgarian/Greek border, as well as with its numerous Bulgarian-Muslim population.
The highest point – the peak of Uden (1667 m), is located into the land of the village of Pletena. Nearby is the reserve “Dark Forest”. The summit can be reached by a dirt road. On the land of the village of Pletena is located the Mechata Dupka cave, 12 meters long. Another landmark in Pletena are the Roman bridges in the areas of “Karamanitsa” and “Banyan”. Interesting is the site of Comitski Baraki – the place where VMRO revolutionaries gathered, where from came the name of the locality.
During excavation works in the land of the village of Pletena, Thracian armament from the end of the 4th century BC was found, which is now in the historical museum in Blagoevgrad.
At 8 km away is the village of Dolen, having preserved the authentic spirit of the past.
Another possibility is hiking trips for the lovers of nature to the places of Pletenski Chark, the Dikchan Hunting Reserve, the Orpheus area and the Thracian settlement. In the village of Pletena the film “The end of the song” was shot with the famous Rhodope song “Ruffinka lay sick”.
