The rock phenomenon “The Turtle” is located 2 km northeast of the village of Ilindentsi in the “Cayasi City” area.
The name comes from the hill that resembles a tortoise, but it is actually an antique, late antique and medieval settlement there. On the hill there are fragments of building ceramics. There are no remains of walls, but there might have been a little fortification here – a guard station. To the east follows a low plateau, on which there are fragments of household and building ceramics typical for the III – V century and for the Middle Ages. Apparently there was a significant settlement in this place. Hence the votive tablets of the Thracian horseman and of Artemis, suggesting the possibility that there was also a Thracian – Roman sanctuary.
