The centuries-old platans are located to the right of the Gotse Delchev – Marchevo road, towards the center of the village of Garmen, in Zagrade (now the neighborhood of Garmen).
The century platans are the two most attractive age-old trees in the area. They are over 600 years old and have been declared protected in 1968 because of their age, size and extraordinary beauty.
On March 9, 2011, one of the platans won second place award in the European Tree of the Year competition. It is 24 meters high and its circumference is no led than 11 meters. In this category participated trees from Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia. Voting for the selection of the winner was on the Internet. The “Zagradskiya platan” took part in the European competition thanks to being nominated by Maria Softova, a 17 years old girl.

The larger one has a trunk circumference of 10.50 m and a height of 24 m. The sycamore won the prize in the online voting for Tree of the Year in Bulgaria, securing a place in the ranking for European Tree of the Year.
