The natural landmark “Kozyat kamak” (the Goat’s Rock) is a unique rock formation with an area of about 300 square meters in the area of the same name in the village of Kovachevitsa, 14 km north of the village.
In 1976, the site is listed in government records as a landmark and is under the protection of law ever since. The archaeological expedition of 1983 investigated the 120 holes with equal diameter and depth, carved in the rock formation in ancient times. Located in certain geometric lines, they are similar to the “holes” described in the arch-astronomical literature dating back to 3000 BC in Europe, Russia and others. The ancient Greek philosopher and historian Herodotus points to the Rhodopes (perhaps in this part of the mountain) to be the probable place of the famous Dionysian temple, a sanctuary of the Thracian tribe Bessi. It is possible that their astronomical culture was so high as to allow a “star map” to be made on the rocky surfaces, made by the priests of god Dionysius Sabazius. These scientific hypotheses attract many researchers and tourists to this interesting area called “The Goat’s Rock”, where from an incredibly beautiful panorama to the famous “Kayali Rocks” and the distant peaks of the Pirin mountain opens to the west.
Starting point for the rock formations – “Beslet” forestry.
