Kresna gorge is 25 km long and starts from the village of Krupnik, and from the town of Kresna goes out of the gorge and continues to the Sandansko-Petrich valley.
From Simitliiska valley through the entire Kresna field passes the picturesque river Struma. In ancient times through the Kresna Gorge crossed the road between Aegean and Danubian areas. In the southern part of the gorge is the reserve Tisata – the only habitat of juniper in Bulgaria. Close to the town of Kresna and the village of Oshtava there are healing mineral springs. All Kresna gorge is a wide variety of plant and animal species, due to the fact that he is a migration corridor for large mammals between the mountains of the Balkan Peninsula. One of the main corridors for migration of migratory birds from Europe to Africa, Via Aristotelis, passes through the gorge.
The gorge offers opportunities for mountain, eco, hobby tourism and extreme sports such as rafting, kayaking and others.
