The trail of Eco path “The story of Demyanishka river…”starts from the Bansko resort, just below the Katerina hotel and crossing the hut “Demyanitsa”, reaching the Yane Sandanski hut. The starting point of the route is approximately 3 km from the road linking Bansko with Vihren Chalet and Demyanitsa Chalet. The route takes about 4-5 hours in one direction, with descending, of course, significantly faster than the climb. At Demjanitsa hut, tourists can choose a new direction for transition, have a meal or / and overnight.
Through the entire length of the path, information boards are placed in appropriate places. The developed fourteen themes present the geological features of the Demyanski Circus and their impact on the biodiversity of the region, the Yulen Reserve, interesting routes from Demjanitsa hut, the past of the Pirin region and the natural sights.
The most appropriate season during which you can take a transition on the eco-path “The story of Demyanyska river …” is the summer. It is then that you have the opportunity to cross the route in both directions for one day, enjoying the incredible nature along the Demyanitsa River bed.
The entire route of the eco-path follows the river, reaching almost to its springs. Demyanitsa has a total length of about 14 kilometers. It collects the waters of six ponds located on the territory of Pirin (Vasilashki, Valyavishki, Prevalski, Tipitsky, Kirshamsky and Gazeski lakes). The begging of Demyanishka River is from the valley lakes located at 2,400 meters above sea level.
At the beginning it follows a west direction, but after the area called the Tayatsite it’s changed into direction north. Near the Demyanitsa hut, one of the main points along the route of the eco-trail, the river accepts some of its biggest tributaries – Kirkomska and Yulen. It is here that it turns into a classical high-mountain mountain river, reminiscent of its blooming waters.
If you take the eco-path “The story of Demyanishka river …”, a little more than a kilometer before you reach the hut, you will encounter the beautiful waterfall Demianishki Jump, which is particularly impressive during the high spring and autumn months, although it is only 11 meters tall. Shortly before (when climbing) there is another magnificent Pirin waterfall – Ulenski Jump (9 meters). In 1965, both waterfalls were declared a natural landmark.
Shortly before reaching the town of Bansko, the Demianitsa River merges with Banderitsa and thus starts Glazne, which later flows into Mesta. The ecopath is one of the most attractive on the territory of the Pirin mountain. Though relatively difficult and lengthy, the route is definitely worthwhile as it offers you the opportunity to enjoy incredible beauties following the scenic bed of Demyaniska River.
