The Church “St. St. Theodor Tiron and Theodor Startilat” is a uniquely painted temple associated with many legends.
The village of Dobarsko is growing famous among tourists not only because of the ancient church “St. St. Theodor Tiron and Theodor Startilat” that is one of the 100th national touristic sites under the patronage of UNESCO. The visitors are attracted also by the legend of the miraculous power of the settlement. The legend tells that Samuil’s worriers, blinded after they lost the battle at Belasitsa in 1014 settled here in Dobarsko because it was here that they found a cure in the healing water of the fountain. Gradually, Dobarsko is turning into a well-developed eco-touristic destination. Near the village there is a waterfall as well as fine eco paths that allows enjoying a fabulous vacation in the heart of Rila Mountain.
The Sanctuary was built in 1614. The temple was built as a three-nave basilica out of stone and mortar. The architecture was bound to the Turkish orders – to be small, half engraved in the ground, without a dome and bell tower. The windows are very small and so the architecture of the building resembled the ordinary house in the village. It is one of the 100th national touristic sites.
