The village of Delchevo is situated at the foot of South Pirin, 9 km from the town of Gotse Delchev.
Its altitude is 1,050 meters. The village has a peculiar architectural appearance, harmoniously combining the steep terrain, the amphitheatrical location of the houses and the narrow, cobbled streets. Many of the residential buildings were built by local craftsmen at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. They belong to the type of revival house: 27 of them are monuments of culture. Its ancient houses, most of them built in the second half of the 19th century, have been amphitheatrically dug into the steep southeast slope of the mountain. In some places the rock is used directly for the wall on the ground floor and an interesting intertwining of nature in the architectural appearance of the village is observed. Many of the houses have an oriel on the second floor. These, combined with the narrow, sloping alleyways with the cobblestone, create some typical Renaissance atmosphere. Most of the houses of Delchevo are declared architectural monuments of culture.
The area around the village is suitable for excursions and mountaineering, for training and alternative tourism, for biking, biking and horseback riding to Popovi Livadi Momina Tower. On the forest eco-paths you will find shelters with fountains and hearths, beech water, picturesque waterfalls and meadows with herbs and mushrooms. The evolving rural and cultural tourism has changed the appearance of the village in recent years. The square, the town hall and the old school (turned now into Tourist Information Center) have been updated. The village has over 120 places for accommodation in unique guest houses.
The newly discovered ethnographic complex with the cheerful name “Shapkovata taverm” is perched on the renovated square, to the renovated Town Hall in the heart of Delchevo. The classic ensemble, the harmonious combination of a tavern, a patio with a barbecue and a hotel base, rivals the best examples in the region and is now the “pearl of the crown” of rural tourism here. A combination of contemporary luxury and local taste, “Shapkovata tavern” is an attraction in itself, presenting the history, life and culture of the village.
