Blagoevgrad Zoo is located near the city center and the Varosha quarter, in the Loven Dom Park.
In 1959 in the city park near the nowadays hotel “Alen mak” was brought the first inhabitant of the Zoo – an eagle (Kartal), then later on was also delivered a lion in the park. So eventually the idea of building a Zoo in the city was born. A little later, the Zoo of Blagoevgrad opened.
To date, the zoo has an area of 150 acres, of which 50 acres are used. Animals can be viewed by species in different alleys of the Zoo.
Lane 1 – Fish; turtles; Rodents – rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, Nutria; Birds – peacocks, hens, pheasants, ducks, geese.
Lane 2 – Pheasants, Ostrich, Red Deer, Vatu, Lama, Tibetan Jack, Buffalo, Ponies, Nose Bear, Monkeys, Genoa, Parrots, Bears, Wild Pig.
Lane 3 – Kamerunian Goats, deer, mouflon.
Lane 4 – Lions, jaguar, wolf, jackals.
