Lesnovo is a mountain village located on the right side of the Zletovska River.
The name of the village comes from the word “Les”, which means “forest”. The area on which the village is located was densely forested in the past, therefore it is assumed that this is where the name comes from. Lesnovo is a mountain village located on the right side of the Zletovska River, at an altitude of 890 meters. The village is located in the southwestern part of the Osogovo mountain and is the only settlement in Macedonia that is located in the well-preserved fossil volcanic crater, also known as the Lesnov crater. Through the central part of the crater and through the village, in a northeast-southwest direction, flows the small Lesnovska river, which crosses the western border of the crater.
The relief is a consequence of strong volcanic activity, which is part of the most widespread and well-known volcanic area in Macedonia, known in geomorphology as the “Kratovsko – Zletovska Volcanic Area”. Lesnovo is located about 13 km east of Probishtip and about 8 km north of Zletovo, to which traffic is connected by a narrow asphalt road. The area of the village occupies an area of 14.1 km2.
