The saturation with domestic and construction ceramics in this place gives reason to think that it is a Thracian megalith sanctuary that existed here from the first millennium BC until the IV century after the New Age. The famous prophet Vanga advised people with sick eyes to come to the spring of “healing water” over Ilindetsi to wash their eyes with this water and drink from it. So they would get better. Today, near the spring is a chapel of the Holy Spirit, where, after performing the ritual, believers light candles.
The spring is located in the area of “Zandanite”“, where are remarkable formations and sizes of rock faults. In its southernmost part, a huge rock weighing about 10 tons is seized, so that a spectacular rock arch has been formed, catching the sun on the sky in its zenith.Field studies were carried out in the implementation of activities under the project “European tales and legends” of the research team: Prof. Dr. Vassil Markov, Dr. Demetrius Spasov.
