Saints Peter and Paul church is a cultural monument of national importance. It was built during XII-XIV century. Until 1960 the church was functioning.
Here is the preserved wooden bishop’s throne / the only one of a kind in Bulgaria from XIX century / with beautiful decorations and inscription from the 1893. At the back of the throne is painted the effigy of the Melnik Bishop Alexander, who ruled Melnik diocese fairly short. Of great artistic value are painted the well preserved wooden iconostasis with an exquisite carving, with gilded griffins, scenic panels and wooden seats around the walls; the altar and the wooden ceiling with Renaissance frescoes. For the Christianity Peter and Paul are two of the most revered apostles called preeminent saint particularly because of their zealous service of God and the spreading of the Christian faith. During archaeological excavations at the temple in Melnik (whose patron are the saints) are found particles of holy remains of the Apostles Peter and Paul.
