In the village of Skrebatno there is the only museum in the municipality of Garmen, which is second in importance in the region after the Municipal History Museum – Gotse Delchev.
The museum collection was created by an initiative committee with the help of the entire population of the village. It is located in a unique building of more than 300 years, built over a gully, in an old Bulgarian architectural style.
The museum collection consists of two parts:
– Ethnographic part – there are exhibited household items, specific national costumes of the two ethnic groups (Christians and Mohammedans). All exhibits are donated by local people, with most of them of high ethnographic value.
– Historical part – in three rooms there are arranged various exhibits that track the participation of the population in important historical events of Bulgaria. The exposition presents the Haidouk movement – preserved Arnauts swords, knives and rifles, many documents and photographs from the National Liberation Movement, participation of the local population in the Ilindensko – Preobrazhenie uprising. Photographs and documents are presented, also presenting the struggle for an independent Bulgarian church.
