Municipality of Yakoruda is located in the northeastern part of Blagoevgrad. It includes parts of the Eastern Rila Mountain and Western Rhodopes and the valley of the Mesta River.
Within the scope of the territory of the municipality Yakoruda lies part of the National Park “Rila” with the marvelous forests and mountain lakes and meadows, with fascinating view to the Rhodopes and Pirin. Tourist interest are the resort area “Treshtenik”, the River Falls Chesna /landmark/ and protected area “Belatsite” declared for the protection of ancient pine trees. At about 2 km southwest of Yakoruda are the mineral springs /41°C/.
Through the municipality pass two of the main tourist routes in Rila National Park.There are numerous archaeological sites, evidence of the living habitat since ancient times. The most prominent of them are located in the localities of “Gradishteto” and “Saint George Church” and the hill called “Kalyata”. Traveling to Yakoruda can make an incredible experience with the last narrow-gauge in Bulgaria, which will take you to the highest station on the Balkan Peninsula (1267 m) – Avramovo Railway Station.
