Municipality of Strumyani /includes parts of the Middle Struma valley, western slopes of the Pirin Mountain and the eastern slopes of the mountain Maleshevska.
The relief of the relatively small territory is very diverse, mostly mountainous, characterized by picturesque rocks with more than 30 caves. Within the scope of the municipality falls a part of National park “Pirin” and the reserve “Sokolata” in Maleshevska Mountain, which protects 250 years old, high-stem primary forest of oaks and typical for the area of Maleshevska mountain flora and fauna.
There are a number of attractions in the municipality of Strumyani – archaeological sites from Thracian period, early and Late Middle Ages and National Revival period.
Most of the church temples in the villages and many houses have the characteristics of National Revival architectural and artistic style. Three of the churches and some of the houses are declared monuments of culture – “St. Dimitar” – in the village of Palat, church of “Sveta Bogoroditsa” in the village of Velyushets and “St. Athanasius” in the village of Gorna Ribnitsa. From 2002 in Strumyani functions a History Museum with rich exposure. The municipality hosts three international events – International Folklore Festival “Maleshevo sings and dances” in Mikrevo village, International Sculpture Symposium and The feast of the gods of wine in Ilindentsi.
