The main monastery church is dedicated to the Archangel Michael. It was built between 1815 and 1818. It was consecrated in 1818, and the educator Joakim Krčovski attended the consecration. The foundations of the first female monastery in Berovo were built twenty years after the construction of the monastery church (around 1840). The first nuns in the monastery were the daughter-in-law and the daughter of Priest Risto, the son-in-law of priest Peco. They become nuns with the blessing of the abbot of the Rila monastery. At its raising, in the first half of the 20th century, the monastery numbered up to sixty nuns, with a developed rich economy, a theological school, a weaver. The first single-phase hydropower plant in this region was the monastery one. The monastery today is one of the few in the country where the monastic life of its building is continually going on from the time when it is built.
