The unique park “Sv. Vrach” in the town of Sandanski bears the old name of the city.
It begins from the main street and is the only one in Bulgaria with sandy alleys.
It is situated on the territory of 344 dca. It was started by general Georgi Todorov in 1916. On its territory grow approximately 200 plant species, including century-old sycamore trees, declared natural monuments. There are plants from the Far East; America and the Mediterranean. Around ponds and rocky nooks are planted evergreen shrubs. The mild climate favors the diversity of slender redwood, magnolia, willow, ginkgo biloba, cork oak, yew, pomegranate and others.
Over the Sandanska Bistritsa River, passing through the town park, are hanging two swinging wooden bridges. Here you can also find wooden gazebos, children’s playgrounds, numerous ponds, as well as a big artificial lake with swans and ducks, and in the green areas around freely walk peacocks and other exotic birds. In the heart of the park is located the Open Theater and the stadium of Sandanski.
