Churilovo Monastery “St. George” is also called the Igumenski or Gegov Monastery.
The monastery was built in 1848 on the remains of an old temple. With Sultan’s Firman from 1857 it was allowed to expand and build the church of St. George’s Monastery. In 1870 the bell tower of the church was built.
It is located in a very picturesque place: spring water flows near the monastery. Temple feast – Gergoyovden (May 6th).
Monastery properties include buildings, meadows and orchards. Architecturally, the monastery is a complex of the temple building, a building of the old cellular school, which houses two classrooms, a dining room and a cook, a bell tower and a carnation building.
The interior of the church is decorated with frescoes. Of particular interest are the scenes with stories from the “Judgment” and “The Mutations of the Soul” written in the open narthex.
For decades, the monastery is not active (it is not inhabited by monks), and its liturgy is held only on the patron saint’s day – St. George’s Day (May 6), St. Peter’s Day and the Birth of Virgin Mary.
