Georgi Dimitrov Izmirliev, known as the Macedonian, a Bulgarian revolutionary and public figure, a participant in the April Uprising in 1876 as assistant to the apostle Stefan Stambolov and military leader in I-st (Turnovo) Revolutionary District.
100 years after his death, in 1976, his native house in Blagoevgrad was declared a museum – the rooms restored the authentic atmosphere of the Revival period lifestyle, a documentary collection tells about the life and the work of the revolutionary. The house is built on studies of residential interior of a middle-class townhouse in Gorna Dzhumaya from the late 19th century. Fire irons, flint and steel, candlestick, gas lamp, three-legged low table, clay bowls, coffee baking cupboard, copper vessels, churns, towels to cover pots and kettles – all are absolutely authentic and can be seen as it used to be more than one hundred years ago. Interesting is the carved ceiling in the living room, and in the luggage room can be seen a horizontal loom, elements of male and female city costumes.
The house of George Izmirliev has an art gallery, which exposes the works of Blagoevgrad artists. During the summer months the yard becomes an open art gallery for their works.
