In Belitsa you can visit two active wooden so called “valyavitsi”. One was built on Votruchka River and the other on Belishka River, and that`s how they use the clear mountain water of Rila Mountain.
The valyavitsi is the first public laundry that has existed since ancient times till now. They are made by carpenters from Belitsa. At that time, carpentry was well developed as a craft in the town. The valyavitsi shows what constructive solutions have been used in the past, using water as an engine, shifting tradition over the centuries. These facilities are used today by the people of Belitsa for washing carpets, tapestries, rugs, blankets and more.
