Ilindentsi Art Center is situated over the village of Ilindentsi, on an area of 10 decares, amidst exceptional natural scenery at the foot of the Pirin Mountains.
Since 1998 Foundation “Art Center – Ilindentsi” started a project for the creation of the unique Sculpture Park. The idea for the park is the sculptor Ivan Rusev. The artworks of a number of Bulgarian and foreign artists have been exhibited in the park, which became an artistic reality during the annual sculpture of 1998.
The necessary material for sculptures and constructions is supplied by the largest marble quarries on the Balkan Peninsula, located only 18 km from the village of Ilindentsi.
During the walking tour of the park, visitors can enjoy the monumental, contemporary park art of more than 65 well-known names in the sculpture and a number of young authors, now starting their creative activity from Bulgaria and around the world.
In 2000, the largest sculptural site “Forum” was built – an amphitheater with about 300 spectators and an open stage. Each year there is a sculpture symposium and other educational and cultural programs. The sculpture park has made spectacular night lighting, focusing on individual works, sculptural elements and the Information Center.
Along with the excellent opportunities for creativity, the area also has cultural, historical and natural attractions. Old Roman mines, archeological excavations from ancient times, unique caves are located next door. Minutes from the Art Center on an eco-path goes to the so-called “Vanga healing springs” (the healing species) and the place “Zadandite” – extremely beautiful stone formations.
